Paul Getty Museum Los Angeles Review

Posted 07.10.09 at 02:15 PM by Steve Boren

The Getty is more than just a museum...it is an experience. To begin with, it is free (parking is $10) so you can take a whole famliy for the cost of parking. You begin by riding the tram from the parking area to the top. Try for the first car so you can see the ascent directly. I went on 2 tours: 1) the museum highlights and 2) the garden tour. The museum highlights was crowded but they provide hearing hearing sets so there is no problem hearing the guide who is a Getty educator and who was very knowledgeable and patient in answering questions. One of the highlights is Roldana's St Gines-a wooden sculpture. He went over the interesting history and then the museums has x-rays up so you can see how the statue is made from the inside. In regards to the garden tour, I believe the lady was a docent. She did an excellent job on describing the gardens and that although the Getty architecture. I highly reccomend the tours. I also reccomend just looking at the sights from the observation areas of the surrounding landscape of Los Angeles
