Two Important Deadlines for 9/11 Workers
World Trade Center rescue, recovery and clean-up workers and volunteers have until Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, to register with the New York State Workers' Compensation Board. Registering will preserve their right to file for 9/11-related compensation in the future even if they are not sick now.

Please help get the information to anyone you know who may have worked or volunteered in Lower Manhattan in the 12 months following the 9/11 attacks. They should call 877-WTC12-08 for more information or visit WCB WTC-12 Home Page or NYCOSH: Home page.

Eligible city and state employees are also facing a deadline of this Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, to file a World Trade Center-related Notice of Participation with their retirement system. The WTC Disability Law provides a disability retirement benefit to eligible city and state employees who become disabled from participating in the WTC rescue, recovery and clean-up operations between September 11, 2001, and September 12, 2002. Those eligible should contact their retirement system for more information:

WHAT: Labor and political leaders are joining together to call for both the House and Senate to pass HR. 847 and S.1334, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, soon after Congress reconvenes on September 14th.

WHY: Over 20,000 9/11 responders and survivors are documented sick from their exposures to Ground Zero toxins. We need a permanent comprehensive program to provide them long term care, monitoring and compensation for their economic losses.

The 9/11 Health and Compensation Act would:

► Provide medical monitoring and treatment to WTC responders and survivors (area workers, residents, students) who were exposed to the toxins at Ground Zero.

► Build on the existing monitoring and treatment program by delivering expert medical treatment for these unique exposures at Centers of Excellence.

► Reopen the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) to provide compensation for economic losses and harm as an alternative to the current litigation system.

► Provide liability protections for the WTC Contractors and the City of New York.

Freedom Tower Cornerstone Memorial Garden preserves the memory of those lost on 9/11/01


Hauppauge, NY – On September 8th from 12-2pm, Innovative Stone is planning an intimate ceremony of remembrance and viewing of the Freedom Tower Cornerstone. Keynotes include: United States Congressman Steve Israel, United States Congressman Tim Bishop, John Feal, President & Founder of the FealGood Foundation, representing 9/11 First Responders, Jennifer McNamara, Widow of Firefighter & 9/11 First Responder John McNamara and Sara Wingerath, MPA, Director of Mentoring for Tuesday’s Children.


This year’s ceremony will include prayers and performances by Jaimy Lynn Productions, Vocalist/Violinist, and The Harbormen Barbershop Chorus, with over 16+ members performing. There will be 11 White Peace Doves released during the ceremony, symbolizing 9-11. The ceremony is free to the public, with lunch and beverages served afterwards, sponsored by Applebee’s and Coca-Cola Enterprises.


As reported by 60 Minutes last February, the Freedom Tower Cornerstone is a historical monument, unveiled by Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Pataki on July 4, 2004, at the ground breaking ceremony marking the rebuilding of the new World Trade Center. Innovative Stone proudly embraced the Freedom Tower Cornerstone project and remains forever dedicated to its protection and moral compass. The 20 ton Freedom Tower Cornerstone was set into hallowed ground on July 4th, 2004 and, as construction progressed at the World Trade Center, was returned to Innovative Stone’s care in 2006.

Hundreds attended the rededication of the new Freedom Tower Cornerstone Memorial Garden at 130 Motor Parkway in Hauppauge, New York on September 11th 2009. The memorial park is situated in front of Innovative Stone’s headquarters on Long Island.


Cathy Mazzo, Innovative Stone’s Marketing Manager, oversaw the rededication ceremony last year, “It was a coming together of community to create and dedicate the Freedom Tower Cornerstone Memorial Garden. “From designing the garden, to building the stone’s pedestal, delivering and planting shrubberies, laying stone walkways, and then publicizing the event, area businesses made this happen,” said Mazzo. “It’s an example of community spirit and unity at the highest level, just like the days following 9/11.”

A 9-11 candlelight vigil at Fire Station No. 88 in the San Fernando Valley just north of Los Angeles underscores the 750-pound bond of steel that Los Angeles firefighters share with those who perished at the World Trade Centers and at the Pentagon.

(Press Release) – Sep 01, 2010 – This Sept. 11, amid the controversy of building a mosque within sight of the remains of New York's World Trade Center, patriots in Los Angeles will stand united at a little-known site that puts a piece of the Big Apple in the suburban heart of the City of the Angels.

The 911 Memorial Fountain at Los Angeles Fire Department Fire Station 88, 5101 Sepulveda Blvd., Sherman Oaks, is at the largest fire house east of the Mississippi, but the unassuming fountain is a best-kept secret to all but a handful of commuters in the San Fernando Valley.

The fountain sculpture is made of steel and concrete from the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon. The fountain was dedicated on Dec. 11, 2004 after two years of effort by local patriots.

The human link to 9-11 is that the 70-member Urban Search and Rescue Team, California Task Force 1 was the first team in the air to New York on the evening of Sept. 11, 2001. It was based out of Fire Station 88.

The fountain is the site of the first 9-11 Memorial SFV Candlelight Vigil, sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Patriots, an affiliate of the national Tea Party Patriots.

The SFV Patriots is sponsoring the 9-11 Memorial SFV, on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The candlelight vigil starts with public viewing of a nearly 100-foot memorial banner, which lists all 3,010 victims of the attack on the nation. The program includes readings, vocals of patriotic and inspirational songs, the "Fireman's Prayer" and "10 Bells" ceremony, plus playing of "Amazing Grace" by a trio of Scottish pipers and drummers.

Arguments in the case of Schwarzenegger v. Entertainment Merchants are set to be heard November 2nd. This case will decide whether California or any other state has the legal right to prohibit retailers from selling violent video games to minors. The California law which passed in 2005 with the support of the Parents Television Council, does not prohibit adults from purchasing M- and AO-rated games, it merely enforces the video game industry's own, self-imposed age ratings. Yet after the law was passed, the video game industry's lawyers immediately challenged it, and the law was overturned by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals which claimed the law would violate minors' "First Amendment rights." ► more

A leading health organization this week issued a warning to parents and pediatricians about the dangerous messages about sex teens are absorbing from the media they consume.


In a policy statement on its website and published in the September issue of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics warns that entertainment media represents “arguably the leading sex educator in America today.”

And what kind of education are they getting? As the PTC showed in its 2008 Special Report Happily Never After, viewers are more likely to see depictions of adulterous affairs, threesomes, sex with prostitutes, or sex combined with violence than sex in the context of marriage or even a committed monogamous relationship on TV. ► more

If you are a fan of the wholesome, family-friendly programming offered by the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel, and AT&T is your cable provider, you will have noticed that those networks went dark as of midnight September 1st when carriage negotiations broke down. Cable companies love to complain that cable choice would make it impossible for niche networks to succeed, yet they are all too eager to pull the plug on family-friendly cable networks when they feel it is in their best financial interest to do so. Needless to say, if consumers were given a choice and could pick and pay for the channels they valued and wanted to watch, none of this would be an issue; prices would be set according to what consumers are willing to pay, and cable customers wouldn’t be used as a pawn by cable companies seeking to maximize their own profit margins.

On Saturday, September 11th, 2010, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States . Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this ninth anniversary of one our country's worst tragedies. We do this honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds.

Action Plan:

So, here's what we need you to do ...

(1) Forward this email to everyone you know (at least 11 people). Please don't be the one to break this chain. Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.

(2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day.

Bad guys beware: An unprecedented number of new and faster police cars are coming, including a new Police Interceptor utility vehicle whose details were released by Ford Motor Co. The Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor has been the quintessential police car, leading the market for 15 years and holding a more than 70 percent share. But Ford is discontinuing production of its venerable rear-drive sedan next year, and General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC -- as well as Ford -- are offering cars they hope will succeed it. "This is a unique time because we're moving out of the Crown Vic," said Kevin Koswick, Ford's fleet director.

Law enforcement officers may secretly place a GPS device on a person's car without seeking a warrant from a judge, according to a recent federal appeals court ruling in California. Drug Enforcement Administration agents in Oregon in 2007 surreptitiously attached a GPS to the silver Jeep owned by Juan Pineda-Moreno, whom they suspected of growing marijuana, according to court papers. When Pineda-Moreno was arrested and charged, one piece of evidence was the GPS data, including the longitude and latitude of where the Jeep was driven, and how long it stayed.

Newark submitted a layoff plan to the state Civil Service Commission this week, taking a crucial step toward the biggest purge of workers the city has seen in decades. Police unions, who stand to lose 167 officers have taken out billboards that read "Welcome to Newark - Stop Laying Off Cops and call Cory Booker." Firefighter unions have warned of public safety debacles if they lose the 96 employees targeted by the mayor.

A Real Lawsuit from the Virtual World


A federal judge is allowing a negligence lawsuit to proceed against the publishers of an online virtual-world video game after the plaintiff alleged that he became psychologically dependent and addicted to playing Lineage II.
In a complaint filed on his own behalf, plaintiff Craig Smallwood of Hawaii sought unspecified monetary damages against NCSoft and NCInteractive, Inc., the maker and publisher of Lineager II, because of what Smallwood claimed to be the addictive nature of the game. Smallwood alleges that he became so addicted he was "unable to function independently in usual daily activities such as getting up, bathing or communicating with family and friends."
According to court documents, Smallwood claims he played Lineage II for over 20,000 hours from 2004 through 2009 and that he "experienced great feelings of euphoria and satisfaction from persistent play."

A new song by Cee-Lo Green called "F*** You" has become an overnight viral sensation, generating more than 2.5 million You Tube hits in just one week. It may be just a matter of time before this Internet sensation can be heard on radio stations across the country. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ruling last month kicked the door down for indecent content to flood the radio and TV airwaves by obviating the FCC's broadcast decency rules.
