NEW HAVEN, Conn., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A woman was killed and two women were injured by a U-Haul truck in a tailgating area outside the Yale Bowl in New Haven, Conn., Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred before the start of the Yale-Harvard football game.
The Hartford (Conn.) Courant said the truck turned into the lot and accelerated for some reason and ran over the three women. Police said the truck continued moving forward and struck two other U-Haul vans in the lot.
A 30-year-old woman was pronounced dead later at Yale-New Haven hospital, the Courant said. Yale University said she was not a student, and she apparently was not affiliated with Harvard, the newspaper said.
One of the injured was listed in serious but stable condition. The other had minor injuries.
The driver of the truck, a Yale student, was taken to the police department for questioning, the newspaper said.
A moment of silence was held at the start of halftime in memory of the victims.
In a statement, the university said, "Yale extends our sympathies and prayers to the family of the woman who was killed and hopes for the speedy recovery of the two women hurt. Our thoughts are also with those who witnessed or were affected by this tragic accident."
