AFP-FL calls on local activists to speak out at County and City meetings Tallahassee, FL – Americans for Prosperity-Florida (AFP-FL) the state’s leading grassroots advocacy group against corporate welfare and taxpayer handouts to professional sports teams is calling on the Pinellas County Commission to strike down a proposed resolution that emboldens the City of Dunedin to spend millions of local taxpayer dollars to fund a baseball facility for the Toronto Blue Jays. AFP-FL opposes corporate welfare and taxpayer handouts to professional sports teams because it is not the role of government to take money from taxpayers to redistribute those funds to private business ventures, and it has been proven that when these incentives are deployed taxpayers see a poor to negative return on investment. AFP-FL state director, Chris Hudson released the following statement: “Pinellas County and Dunedin officials are hurting their citizens by siding with professional baseball over greater community needs.
