AFP-FL Applauds Rep. Beshears’ Occupational Licensing Reform Legislation

Group calls on the House to pass common sense jobs creation reform Tallahassee, FL – Americans for Prosperity-Florida (AFP-FL) is urging the members of the Commerce Committee to vote “yes” on Representative Halsey Beshears’ occupational licensing reform measure, House Bill 15 (HB15). HB15 could help further ignite job creation in Florida by making it easier for workers and entrepreneurs to gain employment or start their own business by cutting unnecessary or duplicative regulations that otherwise inhibit an individual’s ability to break into a chosen career path. Florida is recognized nationally for having the 4th most burdensome occupational licensing regulations. According to the Institute for Justice, “The state enforces burdensome laws that deter entry into 45 of the 102 low- and moderate-income occupations surveyed. On average, breaking into one of these occupations requires $274 in fees, 603 days lost to education and experience — over a year-and-a-half — and one exam… To improve job prospects for low- and moderate-income Floridians, the state should ease or eliminate unnecessary barriers to entry.” AFP-FL state director, Chris Hudson released the following statement: “People want jobs, not roadblocks.
