Treat Strep Throat Without Antibiotics

01.06.14 10:01 PM

Strep throat is a bacterial infection in the throat and tonsils caused by the streptococcal bacteria. Its symptoms include a sudden, severe sore throat, painful swallowing, fever above 101 degrees F, swollen tonsils and lymph nodes, and white or yellow spots on the back of a bright-red throat.

The common allopathic treatment for a strep infection is a round of antibiotics. But antibiotics kill the good bacteria in your body as well as the bad and can leave you susceptible to other health problems. Overuse of antibiotics is also a contributor to the growth of the “superbugs” that are resistant to antibiotic treatments.

There are natural methods available for treating strep without resorting to antibiotics.

One is apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar works on a host of ailments, including acid reflux, sinus infections and restless leg syndrome. Add strep throat treatment to the list.

Simply create a solution with 1 to 3 teaspoons of raw organic apple cider vinegar in an 8-ounce glass of water and gargle several times a day. You should see relief quickly.

Cayenne pepper is another natural remedy. Mix cayenne pepper (as much as you can tolerate) in a glass of water and gargle. You can also dip a cotton swab into the solution and apply it to the back of the throat.

Another remedy is a paste made from honey and cayenne pepper. This can also be applied to the throat with a cotton swab or other applicator. Honey is a natural antiseptic/antibiotic.

If these treatments don’t show results pretty quickly, antibiotics may become necessary.
