Democrats Get To Talk More In Each Debate

10.18.12 09:01 PM

Without a doubt, Democrats have come out ahead in one area of the debates: time spent talking. In each of the three debates so far, the man with the blue tie has talked the most.

In the first debate, President Barack Obama spoke for three minutes and 14 seconds more than Mitt Romney, according to the CNN debate clock. In the Vice Presidential debate, Joe Biden spoke for one minute and 22 seconds more than Ryan. (That is the time of actual words being spoken. If you accounted for all of his giggles, it would be much more.) At Tuesday’s town hall debate, Obama spoke for four minutes and 18 seconds longer than Romney.

Despite the fact that Democrats have had more time to talk, Republicans have had the edge. The Nation was in agreement that Romney trounced Obama during the first debate. The Vice Presidential debate was virtually a draw, but a CNN poll gave Paul Ryan the win. The media have not announced a clear winner of Tuesday’s debate. Republicans feel like Romney won, while Democrats believe Obama left with a victory. CNN’s poll gives the latest victory to Obama.
