ObamaCare targets the elderly... again

ObamaCare targets the elderly... again

I thought socialism was supposed to take care of everyone... but I guess in the ObamaCare fantasy world, "everyone" doesn't include seniors.

The socialist healthcare package that passed the House of Representatives relies on $500 billion (yes, that's billion with a "B") in Medicare "savings" to pay for the plan.

That means that half the burden of this trillion-dollar fantasy over the next decade will be placed on the backs of seniors.

What else is new? They're sticking us seniors with the highest costs, and now we're facing the biggest cuts.

But that's not even the worst news. These cuts would be so severe that many seniors would face significantly reduced benefits and limited or even no access to health care at all. Before you know it, many hospitals and nursing homes would have to stop accepting Medicare and Medicaid altogether.

This isn't some nightmare scenario dreamed up by those of us who oppose this wrong-headed scheme. It's part of a report prepared by Richard S. Foster, the chief actuary for the agency that administers Medicare and Medicaid.

Somehow, this same system that's facing huge cuts would also have to absorb a big chunk of the 30 million people that will be added to the insurance rolls as everyone is forced to buy into the system whether they can afford to or not.

"It is reasonable to expect that a significant portion of the increased demand for Medicaid would not be realized," Foster wrote.

Reasonable? I think it's downright obvious. But in case it isn't, remember that we received a similar dark prediction from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. The CBO warned that the growth in per-person spending would have to slow to half of what it's been over the past two decades to pay for this.

In other words, there's not a chance in Hades this thing is going to work. Either it's going to be paid for through Medicare and Medicaid savings that will force more people into going without care... or it will cost around $500 billion more than anyone is willing to admit.

And guess who's going to pay for that?

That's right. You.

Get used to it.
