Bag Containing $2,000 Returned To Owners

03.15.12 01:36 PM

BOISE, Idaho (UPI) — An Idaho man who found a bag containing $2,000 while walking with his 12-year-old son said he was proud when the boy suggested tracking down the owners.

Dave McKay, 36, said he and his son, Dylan, were leaving the Boise Roadster Show at Expo Idaho Friday night when they found a black bag in the road and soon discovered it was full of cash, the Idaho Statesman, Boise, reported Thursday.

“Before I said anything about what we needed to do with it, he said, ‘We have to give it back, Dad. It’s karma,’” McKay said. “He got the message right: We have to return it.”

However, the father and son soon found themselves stumped when they were unable to find any names or contact information among the cash and receipts in the bag.

McKay said he made a flier featuring a roadster photo he found in the bag and he distributed them at the expo the following day. He said someone called him about an hour after he started handing out the fliers.

He said the caller asked about a black bag.

“I knew right away it was him,” McKay said. “I didn’t tell anyone what color the bag was.”

Cindy and Sam Sammons, collectable toy venders with a booth at the expo, told McKay they hadn’t noticed the bag was missing until the morning. McKay said he and Dylan were rewarded with $300 cash and some die-cast cars.
