Warriors Coming Home: From the Front Lines to Fly Fishing

On 07.25.12 07:00 AM posted by James Carafano

We as a nation have to do a better job of serving those who served. There is a terrific group in Bozeman, Montana, that could teach as all a lesson.

Warriors and Quiet Waters works with Iraq and Afghanistan veterans using the therapeutic effect of fly fishing to help heal the wounds of war. With over 400 volunteers and support across the community, this modest program is making a profound difference for a few veterans.

By getting the fundamentals of how to set up an effective community program right, they have created a model that many could emulate. While not every town in America is blessed with rivers and scenery like in the movie A River Runs Through It, every town could muster what it does best to serve those who served. All it takes is a commitment of contact, comradeship, and community to make a difference.

A long piece in the Weekly Standard on the program is well worth a read.
