A Gun Control News Roundup
01.09.13 10:01 PM
Here is a collection of some of the latest stories coming from the American gun control debate. Gun grabbers are making a great deal of noise and using underhanded tactics to “really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way.” * Vice President Joe Biden Makes Clear The Executive Threat To The 2nd Amendment The Vice President, who is currently in the midst of a series of meeting focused around gun control efforts, said at a news conference Wednesday that gun control is a moral issue and that “it’s critically important that we act.” That’s why, he said, the President is putting together a comprehensive plan that includes gun control via executive order. “The president is going to act,” said Biden. “There are executives orders, there’s executive action that can be taken. We haven’t decided what that is yet. But we’re compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required.” Biden spent Wednesday in meetings with organizations that support gun control and shooting victims. Today, he is slated to meet with gun-ownership organizations and sportsmen’s groups. He is also planning talks with video-game makers and other members of the entertainment industry to discuss gun violence. Former President Bill Clinton Turned A Consumer Electronics Show Speech Into A Gun Control Diatribe According to CNET, Clinton was expected to talk about closing the technology gap between rich and poor countries. Instead, he veered into talking about America’s “unjustifiable neglect of gun safety.” From CNET: Clinton talking about gun control and the death rate in the U.S. compared to other countries. “I grew up in this hunting culture, but this is nuts,” Clinton says. “Why does anybody need a 30-round clip for a gun?” Half of all deaths have occurred since the assault weapons ban expired, Clinton offers.New York Governor Outlines His Own Gun-Grabbing Plan Andrew Cuomo said in an address to lawmakers in his State Wednesday, “Guns have both a noble and tragic tradition in America and in New York State.” That’s why he wants to implement some of the (so far) most draconian gun laws in the Nation. His plan includes:
State Representative Dan Muhlbauer (D- Manilla) said he believes that the government should simply begin confiscating semi-automatic rifles and other “big guns.” He said that he owns a .410 shotgun, a .22 rifle and a .22 pistol. “We cannot have big guns out here as far as the big guns that are out here, the semi-automatics and all of them,” Muhlbauer told the Daily Times Herald. “We can’t have those running around out here. Those are not hunting weapons.” “We should ban those in Iowa,” he said, adding that such a ban should be applied retroactively. “We need to get them off the streets — illegally — and even if you have them, I think we need to start taking them,” Muhlbauer went on. “We can’t have those out there. Because if they’re out there they’re just going to get circulated around to the wrong people. Those guns should not be in the public’s hands. There are just too many guns.” Connecticut Senator Wants Background Checks For Ammo Purchases Senator Richard Blumenthal (R-Conn.) said he wants Federal legislation in addition to an assault weapons ban that would require instant background checks for the sale of ammunition. He is expected to take up the proposal once Congress reconvenes. “They can be done in 30 seconds,” he said. “The vast majority are, and they would prevent people who should not have ammunition or firearms from actually buying it.” On The Bright Side For 2nd Amendment: A Utah Town Is Making Armed Homes A Priority Councilman Neil Sorensen of Spring City, Utah, proposed an ordinance requiring a gun in every household in the town of 1,000. The Council did not make it a requirement, but they unanimously agreed to move forward with an ordinance “recommending” the idea. “It sends a statement that criminals better think twice,” Sorensen told The Associated Press. “If a teacher would have had a concealed weapon in Sandy Hook, I think the death loss would have been fewer. If sane, trained people had guns, they could have shot back.” Here are links to a other gun control topics to help you stay abreast of the issue:
