New York Officials’ Insane Gun Grab Plan

Governor Andrew Cuomo and his gun-grabbing allies are making some major moves in their efforts to violate the privacy of residents in New York, reportedly issuing subpoenas demanding psychiatrists turn over patient records to the State in the name of controlling firearms.

There have already been reports of New York gun owners having their firearms confiscated in the State due to a provision buried in the State’s recently implemented draconian gun legislation, which permits denying 2nd Amendment rights to those who have been prescribed psychotropic drugs.

A mental health provision in New York’s Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) act reads: “The NY SAFE Act is designed to remove firearms from those who seek to do harm to themselves or others. This means keeping the minority of individuals with serious mental illness who may be dangerous away from access to firearms. This law should not dissuade any individual from seeking mental health services they need.”

According to the law, mental health professionals are charged with determining whether a patient is a risky firearm owner and “report to their local director of community services.”

But, Ammoland’s Dan Roberts reports that sources have contacted him with information of recent activity by officials in the State that is unConstitutional on many more levels than co-opting mental health professionals as agents of the State:

My sources revealed that two prominent and well regarded Buffalo Area Psychiatrists received subpoenas from State Officials, possibly on Friday April 12th 2013, commanding them to turn over all of their patient files to the State. Details are sketchy at this early stage…

…If it’s accurate that the subpoenas in question were received by their targets on Friday April 12th 2013.*That would be the same day that WBEN Talk Radio Show host Tom Baurele told listeners that multiple independent sources within NY State Government related to him that a secret seven member”HIPAA” committee had been created within the Div Of Criminal Justice Services after passage of the NY SAFE Act to work in conjunction with the NY State Police at the behest of the Dept of Homeland Security; for the express purpose of illegally obtaining and accessing the private medical records of potentially millions of NY State Residents. Then comparing those records with the records of known firearms owners and pistol permit holders in order to facilitate the confiscation of firearms under the extraordinarily broad language in the law regarding those that have been deemed “mentally unstable“.

If Roberts’ sources and assessment are accurate and New York officials are successful in creating a mental health/gun ownership cross check master list, anyone who has ever uttered a documented word to a mental health professional can be assured that the government knows who and where they are.
