Obama Administration Admits Killing American Citizens With Drones For First Time

The Administration of Barack Obama acknowledged killing four U.S. citizens in “counterterrorism operations” abroad for the first time on Wednesday. The widely-reported killings of the Americans — Anwar al-Awlaki, his 16-year-old son Abd al-Rahman Anwar al-Awlaki, and Samir Khan— occurred in Yemen in 2011. The previously unreported drone killing of Jude Kennan Mohammad, a Florida native killed in Pakistan, was also revealed by the Administration. The official acknowledgement was made in a letter sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee members by Attorney General Eric Holder and sent the day before the President is expected to deliver a major speech on the Administration’s counterterror policy.
