EDINBURGH, Scotland (UPI) — An Edinburgh, Scotland, boutique offers a course in anthropomorphic taxidermy, the art of displaying stuffed mice in costumes, the teacher said.
Taxidermist Shannon Marie Harmon, 30, of the London Taxidermy Academy offers the four-hour class in which students learn to apply preservative inside mice bought from pet shops, and pose and dress them in a range of outfits and styles, the The Scotsman reported.
The practice was a popular art form during the Victorian and Edwardian Eras, the newspaper noted, and Harmon currently teaches two 15-person classes.
“It’s a novel thing to do. You learn a skill, while also leaving with a unique piece of art to display as you wish,” she said.
